All loved up but no-where to go this Valentine’s Day? We’re here to be your own personal cupid, with romantic suggestions in and around our country hideaway near Bath. . .
Spa time in Bath
Bathing in our hydrotherapy pool while watching the sunset is probably THE most romantic thing you can do on a visit to Homewood, and we’re sure it ranks highly in the de-stress stakes too. Push the boat out with a luxurious treatment, such as our Vitality top-to-toe experience, or Inner Peace, both ideal ways to feel truly relaxed, increase energy levels and boost your mood. You can discover more about our spa and treatments, here.
Dinner for two
Staying at home and cooking often seems like the most romantic date of all, but unless you’re a natural cook, the pressure of ensuring your béarnaise sauce doesn’t split and your chocolate fondant still has a melting middle, can kill the mood before you’ve begun. Here at Homewood, our executive chef Marc Hardiman, has come up with a simple sharing menu you don’t have to stress over this Valentine’s.
A mezze platter with creamy burrata, baba ganoush, flat breads, pickles, marinated veg and smoked cod’s roe is the perfect relaxed way to start, while mains are a hearty affair. Choose between herb-crusted rack of lamb with gratin potatoes and a Provencal garnish or a whole roast corn fed chicken with sage and onion stuffing, caramelised smoked garlic and sauté potatoes, both of which are designed to share. For pudding it’s got to be chocolate, and Marc’s Dark chocolate dome, white chocolate aero, caramel chocolate mousse and passion fruit sorbet will leave you swooning at first bite. Steal a kiss
Our kissing gate at the front of the hotel has long been a favourite spot for newlyweds to stop and have a sneaky kiss. Whether you’re loves young dream or long-suffering devotees, it’s worth a stroll across the lawn to see it for yourselves.
Indeed, many of the most romantic moments are free, and you can’t beat a walk around the grounds, or down to the village for views of rolling countryside and verdant valleys to give yourself a reminder of how lucky we are to find ourselves in such a hopelessly romantic part of the world.
Propose a toast
If cosying up in front of a roaring log fire is more your thing, we’re not short on comfortable corners to call your own. You can indulge in afternoon tea, sip on award-winning English fizz or test out our cocktail classics and premium gin list. A lovely laid-back atmosphere, chic surrounds and warm hosting provide the perfect backdrop to truly impress and delight a loved one.
Pop the question
If you’re going big this Valentine’s Day and thinking of proposing, Bath has plenty of locations to rival even its most romantic European counterparts. A sunset walk along the Royal Crescent perhaps, a midnight stroll by the weir, or, if messing about on rivers is your thing, then a boat trip along the Kennet & Avon can be both luxurious and fun. One of our absolute favourites though, if the 212-step climb doesn’t put you off, is the spectacular bird’s eye view from the top of Bath Abbey, which lays the whole of the city at your feet.
