This stunning building is in the heart of the city – enjoy its magnificent glass-stained windows, columns of honey-gold stone and some of the finest fan vaulting in the world. The first King of England – King Edgar – was crowned at this site in 973 and the Abbey itself was the work of Sir George Gilbert Scott and took a whole decade to complete. The Abbey is still a working Christian place of worship with services taking place throughout the week. Come and experience the special atmosphere and rich history of this holy and uplifting place.
